Stoney Creek, er Stoney Point … updated, 10:30 p.m. Wednesday

I finally got around to doing a mix from the two days of recording Milltown did at my house. And the only reason I got this done, frankly, was by bringing my external hard drive to work and mixing it at my desk, wearing ear buds, between work interruptions. No doubt I’ll make some additional corrections when I can hear it on my near-field monitors. (I think that’s Luke you hear grunting during his intro. G) I’m playing fiddle on this one, Andy on mandolin.

10:30 p.m.: OK, new version, remixed (Stoney Creek.2) re Don’s perceptive recommendations.

11:30 a.m. Thursday: The proper name for this is “Stoney Point,” as Luke just pointed out. Though in fact the original title to this tune is “Wild Horses at Stoney Point.”

A tune I’m working on for a composition class

This is supposed to be in the style of Bach, meaning there are a bunch of rules that must be obeyed. This is the Finale software playing. I’ll make a live recording when I get around to it.

Here’s me noodling around on my 1920 Gibson A, trying to get an idea for the above.

Couple of tunes from Tuesday’s session

The first take of Kentucky Mandolin, which I edited for no good reason since the third take was the one we liked. Plus Badfish, which is completely unmixed but just so you can hear some vocals. The Red Haired Boy at the end is not the best take of that tune.

River Roots festival

I played at the River Roots festival Saturday with Milltown. They treated us right — food, beer, an air-conditioned trailer dressing room. Some pix:

On small leap for webkind, one giant fleep for fleepkind

OK… So it looks like this is how to post.

We’ll add a silly picture here:

A picture of people who look too serious to play music

The Fiddling Powers Family

And then maybe a sound file of me and Bob “Real Deal” Rosenstiel waiting for the waitress to bring the band whiskey so we could actually perform.
